Just finished watching Prayers For Bobby.
God, what a beautiful, amazing movie. I was bawling the last hour of it. Gorgeously shot, and the emotion was searing, I just...asjakaj.
If anybody reading doesn't know already, I am a Christian, and I am a huge supporter of Gay Rights. (Yes, we do exist.)
Just...the sheer ignorance of some people. The kind of bigotry that I hear from people in my own religion is absolutely disgusting. It literally makes me sick to my stomach. How can any action based in hate be considered an act of God? I just don't understand! Why is it that persecution because of race is frowned upon, but it's okay to taunt and torture gay people? Why? WHY?
I can't even think straight.
There are a few lesbian couples at our church, and our pastor welcomes them with open arms. We've lost a few members because of them, but they were obviously messed up anyway, and we're better off.
One couple wants to have a commitment ceremony at the church, and Rev. Dave said yes, and that he would lead it. It apparently caused this big debate and the Elders meeting, and my mom, the Head, was put on the spot. She thinks the same way I do, and she said so. We've lost another member, but at this point I could hardly give a damn.
God is love. Straight love, friendly love, family love, gay love. He is LOVE.
Why is that so hard to understand?
